I’ve added new high quality candids photos of Dakota Johnson seen filming a scene for ’50 Shades of Grey’ in Vancouver on December 5, 2013.
THE makers of the film version of “Fifty Shades of Grey” are apparently planning to release two versions: one toned down for mainstream audiences and another, for fans of the books, made much more explicit.
The sex scenes that made the EL James novels so popular – including bondage, spanking and sadomasochism – have created a problem for the film version’s American producers: they don’t want to alienate fans of the risqué novels by cleaning the story up too much, but they also want to ensure it receives a rating that will put it in front of mainstream audiences.
The Sunday Times reports the film’s lead producer, Dana Brunetti, hopes the first version of the film would receive an “R” rating in America, meaning that children under the age of 17 would be allowed to watch it with an adult guardian.
A smuttier NC-17 version, which allows for depictions of rape or drug use, would then be released for audiences aged 17 or over.
“‘Everybody could go and enjoy the R version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then have that NC-17 version out there as well,” Brunetti said.
The £25 million ($44.9 million) movie, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, starts shooting in Vancouver this week. It’s expected to hit screens in February 2015.
It was day one of trying on her new brown locks as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, a role that could come to define up-and-coming actress Dakota Johnson. The 24-year-old daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson was approaching her first photo shoot and interview for EW’s cover story in a very relaxed manner: joking with her future on-screen boyfriend Jamie Dornan; snapping photos for author EL James who was visiting the set, and trying to stay away from the tempting desserts that filled the craft services table.
The actress did acknowledge that it was a bit strange to embody a character for a role she hasn’t even had a chance to rehearse. “At first it felt like what are we doing because we haven’t done anything yet: How are we supposed to be in character when I don’t even know what’s going on,” said Johnson about the photo shoot. “But then everyone chilled out and that was good.”
Johnson coveted the role of the virginal college student for a long time. Once she found out producer Mike DeLuca was making the movie she quickly emailed her manager pleading with him to get her the part–and she had not yet read the books. Her mindset didn’t change once she perused the popular trilogy.
“I just really understand it,” said Johnson. “I think it’s an incredible love story and that’s why it’s affected so many people. Erica (EL James) did a really good job of explaining how that just can happen sometimes and you have this chemical pull to someone. Adding in the sex makes it perfect. Sometimes you feel a little bit naughty and that’s okay.”
Johnson auditioned for the film by reading a long, sexually-explicit monologue from Ingmar Bergman’s filmPersona, one that chronicles the sexual adventure of Nurse Alma on a beach with another woman and two young boys. It was an unconventional choice for an audition piece but one that suggested to Johnson that the filmmakers were going to address the sex in a mature, direct manner. “They weren’t–and I can’t think of a better word right now–pussy footing around the subject,” said Johnson with a laugh.
The actress stalked her manager and agents on a daily basis waiting to hear if she had landed the role. It was the end of summer and she was in New York at a friend’s loft apartment. No one, with the exception of her boyfriend, actor Jordan Masterson, knew she had even auditioned for the role. She was sworn to secrecy.
“The phone rang and I remember looking out of this apartment to an apartment across the street. And I was looking at all of these people in their windows. And I thought, ‘How funny would it be if I were watching people having sex right now?,” she laughs.
No one was of course having sex but that didn’t stop Johnson from having an extreme response to the news of her new job. “They said ‘You got the offer’ and I couldn’t speak,” recalls Johnson. “I was just so relieved. I was crying and crying. Water was literally squirting out of my eyes because I had been so stressed out. And there’s this giant Doberman Pincher laying on the bed next to me. And he just slowly fell asleep. It was so special and [this dog] didn’t give a f— about me and what I was going through.”

Rumors continue to fly when it comes to the cast of the upcoming 50 Shades of Greymovie. According to a new report, Dakota Johnson’s dad, Don, objected to her playing Anastasia Steele in the upcoming blockbuster. This latest update follows Charlie Hunnam’s abrupt exit from the film.
Dakota Johnson may be at war with her father, Don Johnson. The actor may not be in the spotlight any longer, but that doesn’t stop him from commenting on his daughter’s career. According to an insider who spoke with Star, Don is more vocal than ever:
“Don has gotten more conservative as he’s gotten older. Dakota’s mom, Melanie Griffith, told him he’s being a stick in the mud. But Don is a father and he doesn’t want to see his daughter used as a sex object, even if it’s only for a movie.”
Of course, the biggest news surrounding the film has to do with another actor–Charlie Hunnam. Charlie was originally slated to portray the main role of Christian Grey. Continue reading Dakota Johnson’s Dad Objected to Anastasia Steele Role
Fifty Shades of Grey’s cast is almost complete!
Eloise Mumford has landed the role of Kate Kavanagh in the film adaptation of the erotic book trilogy, Variety confirms.
Kate is the bubbly and vivacious college roommate of shy and innocent Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), as well as the love interest of Elliot Grey (Luke Grimes), the adopted brother of S&M fetishist billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).
The 27-year-old actress is best known for her roles on TV’s The River in 2012 and Lone Star in 2010. She can next be seen in the film Not Safe for Work.
In addition to Dornan, Johnson, Grimes and now Mumford, Victor Rasuk will portray Anastasia’s close friend José and Jennifer Ehle will be Anastasia’s mother, Carla. The film, which might be rated NC-17, is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti.
Focus Features recently announced that the steamy flick will arrive in theaters on Feb. 13, 2015. Just in time for Valentine’s Day!
Production was delayed one month after Charlie Hunnam dropped out just weeks before filming began. Dornan, who beat out rumored contenders like Billy Magnussen and Scott Eastwood, eventually replaced the Sons of Anarchy star.
Since its release, author E.L. James’ Fifty Shades has been translated in 52 languages worldwide and sold more than 90 million copies in e-book and print. Universal Pictures and Focus Features acquired the film rights in March 2012.

While its been described by some as “mummy porn” Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson has gone on to describe the EL James erotic novel as “an incredible love story.”
Dakota has been cast as Anastasia Steele in the screen adaptation of the novel, opposite Jamie Dornan who has replaced Charlie Hunnam for the role of Christian Grey.
The actress spoke about why she was so eager to land the role to Entertainment Weekly and said that she was in love with the story.
“I just really understand it,” Johnson said of the book. “I think it’s an incredible love story and that’s why it’s affected so many people.”
She then added: “[EL James] did a really good job of explaining how that just can happen sometimes and you have this chemical pull to someone.
“Adding in the sex makes it perfect. Sometimes you feel a little bit naughty and that’s okay.”
Following a lengthy audition process, Johnson also spoke about how blissfully happy she was when she got the call to tell her that she had landed the role.
“[When I got the call and] they said ‘You got the offer’ and I couldn’t speak,” she recalled. “I was just so relieved. I was crying and crying. Water was literally squirting out of my eyes because I had been so stressed out.
“And there’s this giant Doberman Pincher laying on the bed next to me. And he just slowly fell asleep. It was so special and [this dog] didn’t give a f**k about me and what I was going through,” she laughed.
Recent reports are also claiming that an explicit version of the movie could be released alongside the R-rated cut, which is slated for release on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2015.
